INVITATION FOR 2025 ABSTRACT SUBMISSIONS

The ACSEP Conference Committee invites all ACSEP Members as well as other clinicians and researchers, to submit an abstract to be considered for oral, poster or clinical showcase presentations within all fields of sport and exercise medicine. This year’s conference theme is “The Future Focus of SEM”.

Submissions are being sought for high quality research in the areas of:

  • The Future Focus of Sport and Exercise Medicine
  • Insight into industry technological advancements
  • New and evolving treatment options
  • Exercise prescription and more

Submissions are invited for:

  • Scientific abstracts

We encourage you to submit your published research for consideration. Case studies and topic presentations are also encouraged.

Submission Guidelines

Abstracts (Presentations)

  • To be considered eligible, the abstract should have a clear connection to sport and exercise medicine and the conference theme of “The Future Focus of SEM”.
  • Please include three key learning points that a delegate can take away from the presentation.
  • The abstract should include specific information about the results and conclusions of the research. Objective data MUST be included to enable a fair and meaningful assessment of your submission.
  • Abstracts should include new information, however, abstracts presented at previous conferences may also be submitted. All authors must indicate if, when and where the presentation content has already been published and/or presented.
  • All submissions must be submitted via email to conference@acsep.org.au.
  • The ACSEP Conference Committee will review all abstracts received and make recommendations as to the presentation.

Clinical Showcase Presentations

  • Clinical showcase presentations offer the opportunity for Fellows and Members of the College to share their knowledge about a particular area or condition in which they have developed expertise.
  • Presentations should address challenging clinical cases, include new information on diagnosis, management or a novel approach to clinical care.
  • If there was a collaboration with other health professionals, all those involved must be recognised and named.
  • The clinical showcase presentation submission should be 8 to 10 slides with an in-depth discussion of the case.
  • The clinical showcase presentation should have a clear connection to sport and exercise medicine and the conference theme of “The Future Focus of SEM”
  • Please include three key learning points that a delegate can take away from the presentation.

ASSESSMENT INFORMATION

ABSTRACT AND CLINICAL SHOWCASE

The Conference Committee will assess the abstract and clinical showcase submissions according to several factors, including:

  • Is it a ‘fit’ with the conference theme and includes elements of collaboration and partnership?
  • Is it an interesting new topic, innovative and important to the field and/or a popular topic from previous conferences?
  • Is the topic relevant to a broad range of conference attendees?
  • Is there an opportunity for audience engagement and participation?

Please note that the Conference Committee reserves the right to specify the format via which the presentation is to be made.

Conference sessions will usually include several presentations along the shared streams with an opportunity for discussion with the audience. Each podium presentation will be allocated 10-12 minutes in length, plus 2 minutes for audience questions immediately following the presentation.

NOTIFICATION OF ACCEPTANCE

The corresponding author/presenter will be informed of the decision via email by 11 July 2025.

ABSTRACT FORMATTING GUIDELINES

The submitted abstracts will be reviewed for presentation and must be prepared in strict adherence to the instructions listed below:

  • The abstract should be a clear and concise summary of the study, and its body must not exceed 300 words (excluding title and author information).
  • It is the author’s responsibility to ensure the title, author names and affiliation details are correct and exactly as they should be published on the abstract and all conference materials.
  • Tables or graphics may be included in the abstract body.
  • All formatting is preserved (italics, bold, superscripting, subscripting, underlining) and symbol characters (i.e., ±, μ, ß) may be used.
  • Abstracts must be free from typographical and grammatical errors. Standard abbreviations may be used for common terms. Otherwise, abbreviations should be given in brackets after the first full use of the word/s. Abbreviations may be used in the title, provided the full name/term is contained in the body of the abstract.
  • Presenting authors must provide a short biography (up to 100 words) with your submission.
  • All submissions must be in Word format or PowerPoint presentation.

GENERAL POLICIES AND REQUIREMENTS

  • All submissions must be submitted to conference@acsep.org.au
  • Closing date for submissions is 27 June 2025
  • All abstracts and clinical showcase presentations must be prepared according to the abstract formatting guidelines provided above.
  • All authors must indicate if, when and where the presentation content has already been published and/or presented.
  • Submission of an abstract acknowledges the author’s consent to publication in the Conference Program and Gala Dinner magazine.
  • All presenting authors MUST register to attend the conference and pay the registration fee, or their presentation will be removed from the program. Please note that all costs, including registration, are at the author’s own expense.
  • There is no limit to the number of abstracts that may be submitted by an individual. However, splitting a body of work into multiple abstracts is discouraged and consolidation into one abstract is preferred.
